Marley Travel Division 2: Killybegs 1-13 Four Masters 0-12 4th May 2019

Killybegs 1-13 Four Masters 0-12

Facing into a stiff breeze Four Masters made the brighter start and went three points up through a Thomas McGowan 45 and two frees – one from Conor McDaid, the other from McGowan.

Killybegs started to make inroads into Masters territory and after a quick passing move Jack McSharry found himself through on goal but his shot was straight at keeper Thomas McCann. After nine minutes Killybegs got on the board with a free from Ryan Cunningham. He followed this up with a point from play and another free in the 17th minute before Michael Gallagher gave Killybegs the lead with a point from play. Cunningham had another point from play before points from David Quinn and McDaid (free) put Masters level again.

An excellent long-range point from Seamus Og Byrne put Killybegs ahead again before they had a let off when a shot from Patrick Reid rebounded off the post with goalkeeper Kevin Martin beaten. A free from Cunningham wrapped up the half leaving the Fishermen with a two-point lead.

The second half again started brightly for the Masters with McGowan slotting over in the first minute. Byrne restored Killybegs 2 point advantage with another long-range point. Quinn brought the arrears back to the minimum before two points from Cunningham frees moved the lead out to three.

Quinn and McGowan (free) brought the gap back to one and Masters looked to be in the ascendancy before disaster struck. A turnover in midfield was fed through to Shaun Gorrell in space. His shot drifted left before catching the upright and when it rebounded into play Paul Cunningham was first to react turning it into the net off the post. A point from Michael Statham pushed the lead out to five before McDaid pointed from a free.

A Cunningham free and a Gallagher point from play pushed the lead to six. A free from McGowan and a point from play from McDaid was too little, too late for Masters.
