Senior Hurling

Four Masters hurlers travelled to Belleek on Wednesday evening for their 5th game in the South Ulster Junior Hurling League. They got off to a flying start with a couple of early unanswered points and then a brilliant solo goal effort from Colm Hunter who was influential throughout. Erne Gaels struck back with a goal of their own soon after to tighten up the corebaord. This left Four Masters with a deserved 5 point lead at half time on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-3. The lads turned the class on in the 3rd quarter of the game, particularly Ollie Nolan who commanded the show from the half forward line providing an exhibition of hurling, as they held Erne Gaels scoreless up to the 2nd water break. The use of the strong Four Masters subs bench in the second half, which provided 2-1, ensured that Four Masters closed out the game strongly on a scoreline of 4-12 to 1-6, a result which ensures their progression to the semi-final of the South Ulster Junior Hurling League.

Senior Football

Four Masters Seniors had to dig deep to earn a draw in their away game against Red Hughs on Saturday evening. The game was tied at 7 points each at half time after a disjointed first half of football from both teams. Red Hughs put in a powerful 3rd quarter outscoring the visitors by 1-05 to 0-03.

Trailing by 5 points going into the final quarter, the Four Masters lads finished the game strongly tagging on 5 points while keeping the home team scoreless. The equalizing point coming from Killian Faulkner who showed nerves of steel to strike an outstanding score from wide out on the right hand side of the pitch deep into injury time at the end of the game.

Four Masters will take a lot of encouragement from this result, showing a lot of grit and character to get something out of a game in which they didn’t play particularly well.

Under 13 Boys Football

Thanks to Trevor James, his management team, and our Under 13 Division 1 team who are the first Four Masters group to commit to reducing the amount of single-use plastic drinks bottles used in the club.

This is an important initiative under the Green Club project as we try to move towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way of operating.

We would hope that, in due course, other groups in the club would follow the example set by this group of talented young footballers.

Under 14 Girls Football

Our U14 girls team faced a much tougher task this week with an away trip to Downings in a game that could have gone either way. Our girls settled in well and worked some lovely scores to take an early lead, including a long range goal from Kate. A very strong and determined Downings team then took control of the game either side of the first half water break, to draw level going into the final minutes for the first half. 2 quick fire goals from Sara & Hannah put us in a good position at half time, going in leading 4-6 to 3-3.

The second half started with plenty of possession for Four Masters but we took wrong options in front of the posts with a number of wides. The warm muggy day took its toll into the second half. Our defence was tenacious with wave after wave of Downings attack. Well done to Rosie in goals who pulled off 2 second half penalty saves to keep Four Masters in the lead. Our task was made more difficult with a decision by the referee to send a Four Masters girl to the sin bin for 10 minutes. The girls really had to dig deep as Downings took advantage of us being a player down. Despite some great defending, the Downings girls ran in a few unanswered scores to take a 1 point lead. When we had our full numbers back, it was Four Masters turn to attack. It took a great goal from Sara in the dying moments to seal a 3 point win 5-8 to 5-5. Well done to both teams for a fantastic game to watch.Scorers today were; Sara, Emma, Kate, Naomi, Hannah and Louise.
